This summer, Landscape Operations will be working on an enhancement project for Memory Mall that is designed to improve drainage around the turf and improve the condition of the grass.

What’s Happening:

  • Installation of new turf
  • Removal of existing grass
  • Soil regrading to improve drainage

Timeline:

  • Start Date: May 12, 2025
  • Estimated Duration: 4–5 weeks
  • Projected Completion: June 2–9, 2025
  • Access Update: All three sections will be fenced off and closed to foot traffic through June and July to allow the new turf to establish.

The Final Result:

  • The soil regrading will prevent water accumulation on sidewalks around Memory Mall.
  • It will also eliminate divots and low spots in the grass, caused by wear and foot traffic.
  • The result will be a smooth and even surface, and a rejuvenated turf.

Tree Management

As part of the enhancement project, a select number of trees from Memory Mall will be transplanted and repurposed in order to support the long-term health of the landscape. This will encourage healthier turf growth and improve growing conditions for the remaining trees at Memory Mall, allowing them to thrive without overcrowding. Additionally, this effort will enhance walkway conditions and support ADA accessibility by addressing root-related damage.

In keeping with the university’s commitment to sustainability, wood from the trees will be repurposed for trail paths in UCF’s natural lands, and other trees will be relocated and replanted across campus.

We appreciate your understanding as we work to preserve and improve the Memory Mall landscape. For more information, please contact arboretum@ucf.edu.
